I am currently pursuing a PhD in Social and Personality Psychology at Texas A&M University. My research interests include investigating the psychological and interpersonal consequences of the lay theories people hold regarding both individuals (e.g. the guiding role of true selves and the etiology of character strengths) and systems (e.g. the etiology of social inequalities). For example, in one line of research I examine how culturally-informed beliefs that we should use our “true selves as guides” underlie the consistent relationship between subjective authenticity and psychological well-being. In another line of research, I investigate how people’s reactions to others who use rhetoric that frames American social inequality as a result of individual (vs. systemic) failings can shift based on the race of the person making the argument.
